GMC Sierra Lineup

The 2021 GMC Sierra truck lineup is incredibly versatile, from the light-duty Sierra 1500 to the heavy-duty 2500HD and 3500HD models. Depending on what you need for your everyday life here in Concord, any of these trucks could get the job done. Let’s look at the differences between each of these models and see what they bring to the table.

Performance

You’ll have five engines and three transmissions to choose from on the 2021 Sierra 1500. The base engine is a 4.3-liter V6 paired with a six-speed automatic, capable of producing 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Other engine options include a 5.3-liter V8, a 2.7-liter turbo, a 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel, and a 6.2-liter V8. At its highest output, the GMC Sierra 1500 can get 420 horsepower. The base powertrain is capable of towing 9,200 pounds while the strongest engine — the 6.2-liter V8 — can tow up to 11,800 pounds when properly equipped.

If you need more power than that, the GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD can offer more strength behind the wheel. The standard engine is a 6.6-liter gasoline-powered V8 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. You can expect 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque with this powertrain. The optional Duramax® 6.6-liter V8 diesel is paired with an Allison® 10-speed automatic and can generate 445 hp and a whopping 910 lb-ft of torque. The 2500HD can tow a max of 18,500 pounds while the 3500HD, when properly equipped, can haul as much as 35,500 pounds.

AT4 Off-Road

All models of the 2021 GMC Sierra can be had as the rugged AT4 trim. The All-Terrain 4-Wheel Drive (AT4) trucks give you a specialized off-road suspension with a 2-inch factory lift, Monotube Rancho® shocks, better ground clearance, and improved approach and departure angles. The Sierra AT4 comes with red vertical recovery hooks, a dual-outlet exhaust, 18-inch all-terrain Blackwall tires, black beltline moldings, high gloss black mirror caps, and a spray-on bed liner.

Technology

Whether your family wants to stay connected on a road trip to Boston or if you need internet capability at your work site, the GMC Sierra 1500 has you covered. The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system is equipped with standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. On top of that, every Sierra 1500 offers a mobile 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot. Additional available features include a premium Bose® audio system, wireless smartphone charging, built-in navigation, and additional USB charging ports.

The 2500HD and 3500HD offer similar technology in their cabins. The same 7-inch touchscreen comes with standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. However, the base trims of these heavy-duty trucks are not filled as much as the 1500. For features like a 120-volt outlet and a mobile hotspot, you’ll need to upgrade to upper trims or add them on as extras. But the available ProGrade Trailering System with in-vehicle Trailering App makes up for all of that. This innovative system lets you track and will alert you about mileage, fuel economy, tire pressure, and the electrical connections of your trailer.

Safety

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with standard safety features like LED daytime running lights, a rear vision camera, the Teen Driver system, and Rear Seat Reminder, which alerts you to check the back seat of the truck before leaving the vehicle. Available driver-assist features include Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Front Pedestrian Braking, among others.

While many of the driver-assist safety systems do not come standard on the 2500HD or 3500HD models, these heavy-duty trucks can be equipped with a comprehensive camera system that competitors just can’t match. Offering 15 different viewing modes, the system even has a “transparent” mode that lets you virtually see through your trailer like it’s not even there.

Interior

Space and comfort are optimized and maximized within the GMC Sierra 1500. When you select the roomy Crew Cab, your back-seat passengers will be provided with 43.4 inches of legroom. If you want to be even more comfortable in the front, opt for the Sierra SLT trim, which comes with a 10-way power driver seat with power lumbar and a 10-way power front passenger seat. You’ll also be treated to a dual-zone automatic climate control system, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. But for the top level of comfort, the Sierra 1500 Denali can’t be beat with its front bucket seats, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.

The interiors of the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD models look very similar to the Sierra 1500, but there are a few differences based on the trim you choose. Four-way manual driver and front passenger seats are the standard on the base trim, but you can upgrade to the available 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar as early as the SLE trim. The 40/20/40 split-bench front seat makes for a versatile cabin that can adapt to all of your cargo-hauling needs. And if that’s not enough room, you can opt for the Cargo Convenience Package that adds a console vault and rear under-seat storage. Just like the 1500, the Denali trim adds luxuries like carpeted floor coverings, driver memory, and more.

Trims And Drivetrains

When you choose the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, you’ll have six trims available: Sierra (base), SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, and Denali. All trims can be equipped with two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, except the AT4, which is only available in 4WD. The 2021 2500HD and 3500HD models forego the Elevation trim and offer five models: Sierra (base), SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The Sierra, SLE, and SLT can be equipped with 2WD or 4WD while the AT4 and Denali are only available as 4WD models.
