2024 Chevrolet Colorado vs. the Competition

2024 Chevrolet Colorado | Concord, NH

The new Chevrolet Colorado is one of the most exciting new trucks to come along in some time, and it’s perfect for weekend adventuring up and down the East Coast and well beyond. If you’re in Concord, New Hampshire, and you’re looking for a rad new truck, the 2024 Chevy Colorado has some pretty major advantages over competitors like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and more.

2024 Chevrolet Colorado vs. 2024 Ford Ranger

Chevrolet and Ford have had quite the rivalry over the past century, and it continues today with two of the true heavyweights of the midsize pickup segment. The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger go head-to-head for the hearts and minds of drivers in Concord, New Hampshire, and when it comes to some of the most important things you need from your truck, the Colorado delivers bigger.

Power, towing, and off-road performance

If you need a truck that can tow, whether it’s for work or play, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado has the edge over the new Ford Ranger. When properly equipped edge, the Colorado offers 7,700 pounds of maximum towing capability, which is best in class.[1] That’s 200 pounds more than the Ranger. Want an off-road truck that lets you bring your toys out to the trail? The Colorado ZR2 can tow up to 6,000 pounds, while the equivalent Ford Ranger can only tow up to 5,510 pounds.

As for actual off-roading, you get more options with the Colorado thanks to the Trail Boss, Z71, ZR2, and ZR2 Bison trims. And compared to the Ford Ranger’s best, the ZR2 Bison has more than just an edge. The ZR2 Bison has bigger tires (35 inches vs. 33 inches), higher ground clearance (12.2 inches vs. 10.7 inches), more protective underbody skid plates, and significantly higher approach and breakover angles (38.2 degrees and 26.9 degrees, respectively, against 33 degrees and 24.2 degrees for the Raptor).

Infotainment, connectivity, and convenience

Every 2024 Chevy Colorado comes with an 11.3-inch-diagonal central touch screen and an 11-inch-diagonal digital driver display. This is larger than the 10.1-inch central screen and 8-inch driver display you get in the base Ranger. You can upgrade the Ranger’s displays, but unlike in the Colorado, it will cost you extra. The Colorado is also offered with a next-generation Google Built-in infotainment system, which isn’t at all available in the Ranger.

On a day-to-day basis, you may also find the Colorado to be more practical thanks to its class-leading 17 available tie-downs, class-leading 10 available camera views (including class-exclusive underbody cameras), and StowFlex™ Tailgate. The Ranger offers features intended to fill the same roles, but they simply don’t match the level of capability or flexibility offered by Chevrolet.

2024 Chevrolet Colorado vs. 2024 Jeep Gladiator

The Chevy Colorado and Jeep Gladiator take on the midsize truck segment with two very different philosophies. The latter bills itself as a Jeep with a bed, promising rugged off-road performance and all the usual pickup features. The Colorado, however, has been in the game for much longer — and a respected player, at that. As you’ll discover, the Colorado is more refined, more advanced, and more economical than the Gladiator — even without compromising the all-terrain performance that is supposed to be the Jeep’s bread and butter.

Responsive towing power

All Colorado trucks are powered by a turbocharged 2.7-liter engine rated from 237-310 horsepower depending on trim level and cranking out up to a whopping 430 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 2024 Gladiator uses a 3.6-liter V6 putting out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and that’s as good as it gets. While both can tow up to 7,700 pounds, putting them at the top of the class, the Colorado’s superior torque enables it to feel more powerful and confident at any speed.[1]

Affordable off-roading

The 2024 Chevy Colorado comes away from this contest with multiple wins in the off-road category. The ZR2 model is offered with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, the largest in the class, and segment-first front and rear jounce control dampers. It also boasts an impressive, best-in-class 12.2 inches of ground clearance and best-in-class underbody protection with five boron steel skid plates.[2] The Gladiator’s 11.6 inches of ground clearance isn’t quite up to snuff.

To make matters worse, the Jeep is far more expensive. A Colorado ZR2 will save you about $10,000 compared to a Gladiator Mojave or Rubicon, and over $16,000 compared to the Mojave X and Rubicon X.[3] Even moving up to the excellent ZR2 Bison will still save you money over the Jeep.

Practical features

Practicality is where the Chevy Colorado really begins to stretch its lead over the Gladiator — and all other midsize trucks, for that matter. Just consider the class-leading 10 available camera views (including a class-exclusive underbody cam), or the class-leading 17 available tie-downs. The StowFlex tailgate, complete with a 45-inch-wide lockable storage box, adds versatility and cargo-hauling capability to the Colorado that the Gladiator simply can’t match.

Next-gen interior

Both the 2024 Colorado and 2024 Gladiator feature a large infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and wireless Android Auto™ smartphone integration. However, only the Colorado features Google Built-in technology, enabling you to handle music, navigation, and other features all through your Google account. Additionally, base Gladiator trims are very sparsely equipped, with manual locks, manual front seats, and hand-crank windows.

It’s no surprise the 2024 Chevy Colorado was named the 2024 MotorTrend Truck of the Year, and the obvious winner of this comparison. Make sure to visit Banks Auto in Concord, New Hampshire, to check it out in closer detail!

With great towing power, tons of tech features, class-leading convenience, and a budget-friendly MSRP to boot, it’s no wonder the new Chevrolet Colorado was named the 2024 MotorTrend Truck of the Year®. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado vs. 2024 Toyota Tacoma

The Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma have been at it for years, and show no signs of stopping their fierce competition. And for 2024, the Tacoma comes with new off-road features to help it keep up with the Colorado’s top overlanding trims, like the ZR2 and ZR2 Bison. But even with those changes, the Tacoma still doesn’t manage to match the Colorado, which was named the 2024 MotorTrend Truck of the Year®.

Trims and prices

You get more value when you purchase a Chevy Colorado compared to a Tacoma. The base Colorado WT trim starts at $29,500,[3] exactly $2,000 less than the base Tacoma SR. This is a trend that continues throughout the lineup. The next trim levels start at $31,900 and $36,200 for the Colorado LT and Tacoma SR5, respectively, further increasing the gap. The Tacoma Limited also starts higher than the Colorado ZR2, and both the Tacoma TRD Pro ($63,900) and new Tacoma Trailhunter ($62,900) start higher than the ZR2 Bison ($60,095).

The two trucks have many similar features, so the Tacoma’s higher price across the board is an easy win for the Colorado.

Performance and off-road capability

If you’re trying to get to hard-to-reach places, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado is a better choice. That’s because the Colorado ZR2 Bison offers largest-in-class 35-inch tires, a best-in-class ground clearance of 12.2 inches, and superior approach, breakover, and departure angles than the Tacoma. Even the latter’s new Trailhunter trim, designed specifically to compete with trucks like the ZR2 Bison, still doesn’t manage to beat it (it has 33-inch tires and 11.5 inches of ground clearance).

The Chevy Colorado wins in other performance areas, as well. It has superior underbody protection courtesy of five AEV-stamped boron steel skid plates, a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds (just 6,500 pounds for the Tacoma), and class-leading 10 available camera views for better visibility on the trail — including a class-exclusive underbody camera.

Convenience and technology

More than just an off-road powerhouse, the 2024 Chevy Colorado also keeps its edge over the 2024 Toyota Tacoma on the asphalt. With less first-row headroom and less legroom across both rows, the Tacoma feels more cramped for passengers than the Chevrolet Colorado. It also lags behind in convenience and connectivity, as the Tacoma offers 17 tie-downs — more than any other midsize truck — and a StowFlex tailgate for maximum versatility. Additionally, the Colorado’s Google Built-in infotainment system is more intuitive to use and more responsive than Toyota’s in-house multimedia system.

It’s sometimes difficult to name a winner between two vehicles, but this is not the case here. There’s a clear winner to this comparison, and it’s the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado. Make sure to check it out at your convenience at Banks Auto in Concord, New Hampshire!
