2024 Chevrolet Equinox vs. the Competition

2024 Chevrolet Equinox vs. the Competition | Concord, NH

Are you considering the new Mazda CX-5 or Mazda CX-50? New England’s highest-volume GM dealer has a powerful alternative you may want to consider. We have the new 2024 Chevrolet Equinox in stock, and it more than stands up to both options from Mazda.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox vs. 2024 Mazda CX-5

The Equinox is Chevy’s bestselling SUV and one of the top-selling SUVs in America. How does it fare against Mazda’s own bestseller? This is the question we’re putting to the test, and you might be surprised at the answer.

Price and value

If you’re looking for value, it’s easy to recommend the Chevrolet Equinox. The Mazda CX-5 starts at $29,300 and, at the top trim level, will set you back over $40,000 before any options. Meanwhile, the Equinox starts at just $26,600 and only goes up to $34,795 when fully loaded.[1] Premium trims like the Equinox RS and Premier are priced very competitively compared to high-end CX-5s. If you’re looking for features like perforated leather seating and a hands-free power liftgate, the Equinox offers them for a whole lot less money.

Space and practicality

The CX-5 and Equinox are both compact SUVs, but the Equinox does a much better job of maximizing its interior space. It has a higher maximum cargo capacity (63.9 vs. 59.3 cubic feet), more front headroom (by about an inch), more shoulder room across both rows, slightly more rear leg room, and similar specs in all other dimensional aspects. In other words, if you’re shopping for an SUV that will comfortably haul the whole family or that can handle a big weekend getaway, the Chevy Equinox beats the CX-5 without sacrificing maneuverability or your budget.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox vs. 2024 Mazda CX-50

The CX-50 is a relatively new Mazda SUV that is very similar to the CX-5, but puts greater focus on off-road capability. Unfortunately for Mazda, though, it still struggles to make a good case against the 2024 Chevy Equinox for many of the same reasons.

Price and value

Shoppers seeking family-friendly features at an affordable price have even fewer reasons to look at the CX-50 than the CX-5. The 2024 CX-50 starts at $30,000, nearly $5,000 more than the base-level Equinox. The comparison gets even better for the Chevy if you do want to invest in your ride. The best-equipped 2024 Chevrolet Equinox costs nearly $9,000 less than the best-equipped CX-50.[1] There’s plenty you could do for your family with that money, and as far as features go, you can hardly tell the difference in price. Perforated leather seats and a self-parking system that can even handle parallel parking are just examples of some of the luxurious features the Chevy Equinox offers.

Space and practicality

Once again, the Equinox beats the CX-50 when it comes to interior space. In fact, the CX-50 makes more compromises than the CX-5 with its interior, at the cost of practicality. The 2024 Chevy Equinox has 7.6 cubic feet more maximum cargo space than the Mazda SUV, which can really add up if you do need to put that space to use. That’s enough to fit an extra two full-size luggage plus an additional carry-on. And that goes for passengers, too. Headroom in the Equinox is greater in front, and about the same as the CX-5 in the back. Shoulder room is significantly better wherever you sit in the Equinox. Front hip room is much better, while front/rear legroom and rear hip room are about the same. It’s clear: your kids will be much more comfortable in the Equinox.
